Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website cost?

Full design or redesigns start at $6,000. That includes:

While the amount of static pages a website includes is virtually unlimited, a large amount of varied content may require an adjustment of the flat design fee.

If your site needs a dynamic content management system (CMS) or other administrative tools such as an e-commerce store, events calendar, press release area, secure contact form, or mailing list, these tools may be added to the total. A list and price guide to our in-house developed and maintained tools is available on request. Depending on your needs, we can also custom build content management tools for your site. Is a Modwest developed site portable?

Yes. We build our websites using industry-standard techniques that other competent professionals can understand and use. We adhere to the latest W3C Web Standards for XHTML and CSS and we use PHP, the most popular server-side scripting language.

Why Modwest?

Modwest excels at providing a comprehensive, lasting service with these primary benefits:

What are update tools?

Update tools allow you to edit your site content through a simple, web-based administrative interface that you can access from anywhere, without having to learn any new software or HTML. You also will not have to worry about accidentally breaking the formatting of your pages or compromising the site's design. The tools will be available in an administration area on your website, usually at www.yourdomain.com/admin/, that will be password protected, so only you and select members of your staff can make changes to the site. What do I need to provide?

To get started we would like samples of your any and all of your business's current advertising and informational materials. Importantly, we also want as much of your input as possible as early as possible in the process. Back to the top.

How do we get started?

With a phone call, fax mail or email. We'd love to discuss your project, so don't hesitate to get in touch however you'd like. We offer a free initial consultation, where we will discuss your plans, goals, and needs. That way, we can give you a more specific estimate for your project's timeline and costs. Back to the top.

When re-engineering site navigation and architecture what standards and formats does your firm follow?

Have you ever been to a great looking site that made it impossible for you to find the information you needed? Innovative and attractive interfaces can often thwart your business from reaching its goals and frustrate your visitors. Our design and development team follows established principles in user interface design. Such a design philosophy grounded in accepted principles and business objectives will help ensure that your site becomes a useful marketing tool.

Modwest approaches information design from the perspective of your customer, the site user, while also keeping an eye set on your business goals. We work on the information architecture with our clients before working on visual concepts. That way, we can be as flexible and open-minded as possible before implementing a site structure. How will you incorporate our current branding into our website?

We will work with your existing materials to help convey your business message through web content, features, and media. We will take direction often from you or your team. Back to the top.

Can we manage the content on our website after it is built?

Yes. As you probably know, having a website built is just the beginning. A living site demands time and attention. We build easy to use update tools for you that minimize that investment, but maximize your return. Plus, we build our tools so that you can update your site content quickly and reliably, without fear of breaking or compromising the overall design.

Imagine paying a web developer by the hour to add press releases or news stories every day, archiving old ones, and trying to maintain consistent style throughout all of them. You could very easily pay over $1,000 per month to keep one section of your site current.

For a small initial investment, we build administrative tools that, for example, seamlessly publish recent stories on the front page, archive older stories and allow for uploading photos of any size. Layout and style only need to be set once, and can be changed globally for all stories at any time. Our tools require no HTML knowledge on your part so you or any staff member of yours can update the site quickly and far more inexpensively. Back to the top.

Our general approach is to recommend management tools if content needs monthly, weekly or daily updates, or whenever it makes more business sense.

What technologies does Modwest use for client websites?

Depending on your project's requirements, we will use a wide assortment of powerful tools, languages, and design standards. Here are some of the things in which we specialize:
